General Education Center (GEC)
The Center was established in 2005 and now has 9 full-time members, consisting of 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 1 lecturers and 1 teaching assistant. This division is dedicated in the education of 4 fields-- Chinese, History, Constitution, and Liberal Arts.
Since the 2005 academic year, students have been required to complete 22 credit hours of courses in basic literacy. Courses are starting from fundamental suitable for freshman and gradually exploring in more deep for higher levels. These include Chinese (6 credits), constitution (4 credits), history (4 credits) and liberal arts (8 credits).
The Center has 5 special classrooms electronically-equipped to enable teachers to connect desktop or notebook computers for teaching, and one lecture room with facilities for distance learning and teaching.
4. Academic Activities and Research Focus
We offer many courses of lectures every semester and at least 1 seminar every academic year.
Current efforts are made to enhance the quality of teaching and to encourage faculty’s involvement in research.
5. Career Opportunities
The role of General Education Center is to lay down the concrete fundamentals for freshmen and sophomores.
The education is to enrich their personality with the humanities, to equip them with better language capability for higher education, and to help them acquaint with ways of the world by preparation in the attitude and altitude.
